Bridgerton | Season 2

Let me just start by saying that Bridgerton is not good, I’m well aware of that. The stories are cheesy and predictable and flirt with soft-core. With that being said, when I binge an entire season in 2 days, is there anything else to say other than Obsessed?

I loved Bridgerton season 1 so much that I wasn’t sure what to expect of season 2, especially knowing that Regé-Jean wouldn’t be in it, but I found myself pulled in.

I haven’t read any of the novels because I don’t love romance novels, which is exactly what this series is. It’s a romance novel turned into a soap opera-y saga but somehow Shona Rhimes has made it addicting.

I cannot WAIT for season 3!

Not one to jump on the bandwagon, I hesitated watching Squid Game after watching the trailer and seeing that this Korean series is completely dubbed.

But in the name of the blog (and curiosity), I sat down to watch one episode and binged the entire thing in a week.

Is the dubbing bad? Yes. Are the English voice actors not good? That’s right. But I’m a sucker for a good psychological thriller and a unique concept. Imagine a fusion of Saw, The Hunger Games, and Willy Wonka and you have Squid Game.

Here’s hoping Netflix steps up the voice acting for season 2.

Netflix is now producing their own original movies and here’s a list of the best original movies on Netflix worth watching. I should note, for the sake of this list, I’m going to exclude documentaries because they are kind of in a class of their own and Netflix has a ton. Who doesn’t love a based on a true story mob movie with a little bit of Hoffa sprinkled in? I want to say the genre is reminiscent of the 90s, but The Godfather came out well before that, so maybe it’s a tale as old as time. I love a good docuseries, and it’s especially interesting when it’s a major crime that I’m not familiar with.

‘This is a Robbery’ is a docuseries based unsolved case, a major art heist in ’90s Boston. Come to think of it, isn’t it weird how art heists were very popular in the 90s (why does The Thomas Crown Affair stick out in my mind?) Well, it appears they were actually popular crimes in real life at the time.

No spoilers (that’s my thing) but it’s actually insane that this crime happened, and is unresolved 30 years later.

I watched Bad Trip spur of the moment and wasn’t sure what to expect. In hindsight, would have been GREAT with a gummy!

Bad Trip is like Borat, only not shedding a light on humanity, more so just pulling pranks on people. But I have to say some parts are laugh out loud funny. Three people are in Bad Trip who are in on the joke, Tiffany Haddish, Eric Andre, and someone I didn’t know but whom is very good, Lil Red Howery.

And make sure you stay post credits where they show letting people know they just witnessed a prank. Too good!

As a fan of Gilmore Girls, Hart of Dixie, Virgin River, I just didn’t think I could take another ‘girls in small-town show’. And when I learned that Ginny & Georgia was a single mother who had her daughter as a teenager, well basically I thought it was just another Gilmore Girls. All of this is to explain why I waited so long to watch it. But oh, it is not. It is so much more. And I am pleasantly surprised.

What seems like is another story of ‘privileged woman gives birth to a daughter as a teenager, their lives turn our perfect and they are best friends as they ride off into the sunset’ you quickly find out is not the truth.

Sure Ginny & Georgia has the family and small town aspect. But what it also has is mystery and intrigue. Sometimes when something is so good, I want to say as little as possible about it because I just want you to experience everything for yourself. And I’m extra careful (although I always am) to not give any spoilers. This is one of those shows.

I’ve learned I love limited series because you can develop a story so much for than you can in a two hour film, but there usually a developed story arch unlike a typical TV series.

Coming off of The One, I was primed to watch another British mystery and this did not disappoint. But not only is it a mystery, it is a psychological thriller. The entire series held my attention because I wasn’t sure exactly where it was going.

I am shook. Shook. Verity levels shook.

Murder Among the Mormons

Set in Salt Lake City, this is a shocking docu-series about multiple bombings in the mid-’80s. I want to say it’s the LDS Church version of The Da Vinci Code, but that might be a bit of a stretch. With only 3 episodes, if you like murder mysteries, this is an easy binge.

Is it just me or is Salt Lake City having a moment? Between a new murder show and The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, I feel like it’s everywhere? Although I did love Big Love and The Book of Mormon, so maybe it’s just the curiosity that is so fascinating about SLC.

Full transparency, the first couple of episodes were OK, a little slow, but then just wait.  You realize there are layers to the plot, the character development is strong, and there’s more than meets the eye.

Oh, and remember that comic book?  Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance wrote it.  He’s an Executive Producer on the series so trust that the music is SO GOOD.
