This Week’s Binge 10.30.20
This is Us is back and in a major way! With a 2 hour series, and the show tackling current events, This is Us has managed to pivot its plot in an organic, believable way. In general ‘This is Us’ fashion, tears were shed.

The Queen’s Gambit
Netflix
I remember watching the trailer for The Queen’s Gambit, thinking it was interesting, and putting it on my list. When the time came and it was released I had no recollection of what it was about. I assumed it was a period piece, and I like those so I tried it.
I binged the whole thing in 2 days. It’s not a period piece, (well, I guess it starts in the ’60s but I don’t consider that ‘period’) but it is amazing.
The Queen’s Gambit is a move in chess, and although a series based around chess doesn’t sound entertaining, it is. Beth Harmon is a bad-ass who paved her own way while overcoming numerous obstacles and complications along the way.
Each episode feels like a different chapter in Beth’s life and I couldn’t wait to see what the next one would bring. The only thing wrong with The Queen’s Gambit is that it’s a limited series, so unfortunately I don’t foresee a season 2 in our future.

The Undoing
HBO
HBO just launched a new weekly series and it is SO good. Although only one episode of The Undoing has been released so far, I’m already obsessed.
Nicole Kidman and Hugh Grant lead this murder mystery series, the type of thriller that just doesn’t exist in abundance these days. Seemingly having the perfect marriage (rich, attractive, loving) the end of the first episode leaves you believing there is more than meets the eye.
I have a feeling this is something I’ll be sure to watch every Sunday evening.

Borat Subsequent MovieFilm
Amazon Prime Video
While I did not have this on my radar, I agreed to watch it with my husband. Did I enjoy the first Borat? Sure, but it was something I’ve only seen once and didn’t think I needed to see again.
Well, it’s been 14 years, and they’ve shaken things up a bit. There’s a new character, and Borat has disguises. What isn’t different is just how dysfunctional America can be. And it’s uncomfortable (re: cringe-worthy) to see.
At the end of the day, it’s shining a spotlight on the craziness that is the world and injecting some humor along the way. It starts a little slow but picks up along the way. Cocktails encouraged.
