The Great Believers
Rebecca Makkai
Two timelines in two places. One is 1980s Chicago during the rise of the AIDS pandemic, the other is contemporary Paris.
This is a beautifully written book with a heart-wrenching story. Trigger warning, there is a lot of death because it is during a pandemic.
I couldn’t help but think of the similarities between now and then. A deadly virus that seemingly comes from nowhere and is random as to who it infects and how they are affected. And the cruelty that can come with fear.
