‘Diana: In Her Own Words’ Review

Diana: In Her Own Words

Amazon Prime Video

Coming off of ‘The Crown’ Season 4 I continued down my Royal rabbit hole.  Tip: ‘Diana: In Her Own Words is available on Netflix until November 30th.

This documentary is voiced over entirely by Princess Diana.  Unbeknownst to her family, while she was still married Diana sat down with a journalist to be a source for a book.  All of those sessions were recorded and the result is “Diana: In Her Own Words”.

What is fascinating is that Princess Diana had the foresight to do something so rebellious against the crown, but thankfully she did and we can hear, at least in part, her side of the story.  And parts of this story overlap with what is shown on The Crown, and although The Crown may be dramatized it’s clear to me that at the essence is the truth.

Most of us know the tragic circumstances surrounding Diana’s death, but what I didn’t realize is how troubled most of her life was.  She was married off to a prince at 19.  19!  Imagine taking on that kind of responsibility at any age, let alone as a young adult.

What is summed up in the two-hour film is a chilling, haunting, and heartbreaking story.
