Manhattan Mocktail Recipe
As I get older I find myself drinking less and less. The many cocktail recipes on Very Obsessed may lead you to believe otherwise, but it’s quality over quantity. So whether I’m in the middle of Dry January or choosing an edible instead, I’m finding myself reaching for mocktails now more than ever. If you love the Brandy Manhattan, try my version of a Manhattan Mocktail. Enjoy!

Ingredients for a Virgin Manhattan
- Apple Juice – This recipe is based on a Brandy Manhattan. When I’m making a virgin version of a cocktail I like to substitute organic, no sugar added apple juice or cider. The fermentation of the apples gives an alcohol, depth-like quality to the mocktail.
- Grape Juice – Replacing the Sweet vermouth with organic, no-sugar-added grape juice.
- Grapefruit – A traditional Manhattan contains bitters but because bitters contain trace amounts of alcohol, I don’t like to include them in my mocktail recipes. Muddling the grapefruit with the skin will release some of the grapefruit oil, giving a bitter effect.
- Amarena Cherries – You can’t have a Manhattan without the cherries (I don’t care how healthy we are being) and Amarena are the best!
Non-Alcoholic Spirits
In this Manhattan Mocktail recipe, I’ve chosen to use fruit juices as the alcohol substitute, but the other option is to use a non-alcoholic spirit. With the emergence of the sober curious movement, many zero-proof companies have popped up. I haven’t personally tried them, and it doesn’t seem like an alcohol free Brandy is very popular, but if you are interested in making a Perfect Manhattan Mocktail, you may want to try this whiskey substitute.
What bar tools do you need to make a Non Alcoholic Brandy Manhattan?
- Cocktail Shaker | Manhattans are traditionally stirred, not shaken, but since this is made of just fruit juice, shake away! This one is made of stainless steel, is affordable, has a clean design, and doesn’t leak.
- Cocktail Picks | The cherry garnish is essential.
- Coupe Glasses | I prefer a mocktail to be served in the same type of glass as the cocktail. These glasses are versatile and high quality.
