The Cactus just wasn’t that interesting and so it never dawned on me to go back to it when there are so many other books I am eager to read. The premise is interesting, a mis-understood 40-something that seems a little prickly…I can relate. And it was a Reese bookclub pick. I got through 4 chapters and had yet to get to the endearing part. When you don’t love any characters, it’s hard to want to read. So I didn’t. I am: Annoyed

The Cactus

As one of my favorite podcasts, Bad on Paper, says, this is a DNF. Did Not Finish. Which rarely happens for me in a book.

I could chalk this up to a COVID casualty since I started reading this in early 2020 before the pandemic hit. But the fact is that I’ve read several books during the pandemic. The Cactus just wasn’t that interesting and so it never dawned on me to go back to it when there are so many other books I am eager to read.

The premise is interesting, a mis-understood 40-something that seems a little prickly…I can relate. And it was a Reese bookclub pick. I got through 4 chapters and had yet to get to the endearing part. When you don’t love any characters, it’s hard to want to read. So I didn’t.

The Little Things

I want to say this is a bad version of ‘Seven’, but I’m fearful that’s giving it too much credit. It is in the way that two cops are on a murder case with a deranged suspect, but that’s where the similarities end. For one, ‘Seven’ is great, and ‘The Little Things is not’.

I kept waiting for it to get better, it was a mystery after all. With an amazing cast, don’t think I’ve met a Denzel film I haven’t liked, it should have been good. But it’s not. The story just isn’t there. It’s too long, it’s too slow, and it’s definitely not thrilling.

The actors did the best with what they had, but it’s not much. It’s 2 hours I won’t get back.
