Station Eleven

HBO Max

Station Eleven is a limited series is based on the best-selling book from 2014. However…it feels like it could have been written a lot more recently than that since the premise is based on a flu-like virus taking out a significant portion of the population in what results in a post-apocalyptic world.

I thought this was sci-fi, but knowing what I know now…maybe it’s just fiction? Timelines flash between pre-pandemic and post-pandemic and I found it so interesting to see how societies manage, and how they form from the rubble.

I am: Obsessed

And Just Like That

Fans of Sex and the City have a lot of mixed feelings about the reboot And Just Like That, and for good reason. It’s been 11 years since we’ve seen our favorite group of NYC girlfriends, and a lot has. chanced. And change is hard.

Sam isn’t on the show (I know I don’t do spoilers, but we all know that already, right?), we know the Willie Garson who plays Stanford Blatch dies in real life so we’re waiting to see how that plays out, and Chris Noth who plays John Preston was accused of sexual assault so scenes that have been filmed are now being cut, what will happen with the storyline???

But with all of that being said, I am beyond happy to see the women’s back on the small screen, happy to see women above 30 keeping friendships a priority, and happy to see that life doesn’t end at 40.

A group of very privileged Americans goes to Hawaii for a luxury vacation at The White Lotus. This limited series follows the lives of each family, how they intersect with each other, and how the staff isn’t just bystanders.

The casting is so good! Very much a dark comedy, every actor gets a part to shine depending on the episode. It’s fun to see actors playing parts you don’t normally see them in, Jake Lacey is a douchebag, but the hotel manager, played by Murray Bartlett, is a breakout star!

I know what I think of, and it was the same as that person. So I wonder if it’s the same for you? Spoiler, it’s my #1 choice for the best HBO Comedy Series. Related: Best HBO Drama Series 5. Girls Airing in 2012, 4 friends (girls) in their early 20’s live their life in NYC. A modern-day ‘trying to figure out who you are’ series where honestly, they aren’t very likable but they are entertaining. Since Lena Dunham created, wrote, and starred in the series when she was also in her 20’s, it has privileged realism written all over it. Also, this is Adam Driver’s breakout role, where we realize what an amazing actor he is. 4. Silicon Valley Set in…Silicon Valley, this series pits a former employee of a company that closely resembles google against said company. It’s basically a little guy vs giant corporation battle where of course we don’t want corporate America to win, but with so few resources at a start-up and with Silicon Valley being so intense, the most insane characters appear in the most bizarre situations. 5. Girls

Airing in 2012, 4 friends (girls) in their early 20’s live their life in NYC. A modern-day ‘trying to figure out who you are’ series where honestly, they aren’t very likable but they are entertaining. Since Lena Dunham created, wrote, and starred in the series when she was also in her 20’s, it has privileged realism written all over it. Also, this is Adam Driver’s breakout role, where we realize what an amazing actor he is.

What I especially loved was that the format was constantly changing so you felt engaged the entire time. There’s a part where they are just by themselves reminiscing, then they are getting interviewed, then they are doing table reads, then we see behind-the-scenes footage. And that’s not including the bomb revelation that was dropped and the cameos from some of the actors that made guest appearances. It’s not going to win any awards but it’s great. It is an hour and 40 minutes of pure joy. And the best, best part about it was that the cast seemed as happy to be there as we all did to watch it. I am: Obsessed

Friends: The Reunion

The reunion we’ve all been waiting for. And the only way I could have loved it more if it was twice, ok, three times, as long. And yes I realize I’m categorizing this under TV when it’s an hour and 40 minutes long, but that’s how I’ll always see my Friends.

After not seeing a new episode of Friends for 17 years, it was so nice to see the quintessential ensemble comedy cast back together. What I especially loved was that the format was constantly changing so you felt engaged the entire time. There’s a part where they are just by themselves reminiscing, then they are getting interviewed, then they are doing table reads, then we see behind-the-scenes footage. And that’s not including the bomb revelation that was dropped and the cameos from some of the actors that made guest appearances.

It’s not going to win any awards but it’s great. It is an hour and 40 minutes of pure joy. And the best, best part about it was that the cast seemed as happy to be there as we all did to watch it.

I am: Obsessed

Didn’t it feel like out of nowhere, all of a sudden, we heard all about Qanon last year? If you didn’t know (and I didn’t) it’s like, wait, people actually believe this?

Were there some coincidences? Sure. But coincidences does not a prophet make. An even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Like any group-think, give people something to believe in and there is a certain amount of population that will believe it. What is so unusual about Qanon is that anon part of it. It was a strictly digital following…until it wasn’t.

A 6-part series, they could have cut it short and focused more on the beliefs instead of trying to discover who Qanon really is. As quickly as it popped up, it seems that’s equally as quickly as it’s disappeared.

I am: Entertained
