This Week’s Binge 1.15.21

Currently binging a couple of series I missed the first time around…more on that later.

You

Netflix

I watched the first episode of the first season of ‘You’ when it released back in 2018 and that’s where I stopped. TBH, it hadn’t been that long since I finished binging ‘Gossip Girl’ and I didn’t need any more of Dan Humphrey. Then season 2 came out and when I found out season 3 was releasing this year I figured there had to be something I was missing…and it had been time.

I went back to the well, and I was thirsty! This psychological thriller about relationships gone wrong is very right. There are some very big Millenial ‘Dexter‘ vibes happening. I was surprised at where they were able to take season 2 and excited to see where season 3 will go. Are YOU?

Read

Untamed

Glennon Doyle

This was my second time reading ‘Untamed’, and both times were for book clubs. While the clubs were different with different types of people, the consensus from both groups is that it’s so good.

Glennon Doyle has a way with words, she is a master of metaphor. I hadn’t read of her previous self-improvement books but this was getting a lot of hype when it launched last year, and for good reason. Through the power of storytelling, she has a way of making you feel like you aren’t alone in the things you feel or the things you’ve felt.

It’s a memoir, and Glennon’s story is that she left her husband when her heart told her what she really wanted. What she needed. That’s what her story is. But that’s not what her story is about. The story is about being OK with not fitting into societal norms or stereotypes. Not just being OK with it, but learning to love and embrace it.

The first time I “read” this I listened to it on Audible as I like to listen to all memoirs (feels like the author is actually telling you a story). The second time I downloaded the Kindle version so I could make some highlights because I knew there was so much goodness to takeaway. Whatever your preference, you won’t regret it.

One last note, a favorite chapter is ‘Aches’. There is a certain magic that happens when you hear Glennon, literally, tell her story and it’s so much like your story you are overcome with emotion that what you’ve felt isn’t wrong, and it doesn’t make you bad, and you aren’t alone…tears.
