For All Mankind Season 1

Apple TV+

As you may have suspected from the title, For All Mankind is a show based on space. And although it’s set in the past, it doesn’t play out at all how you would suspect.

Aside from an amazing story, the casting is incredible. Without giving away spoilers, the series focuses on astronauts in the 60’s, their space life, their work life, and their family life. I’m not sure if I missed it, but I’m shocked that this didn’t get nominated for any awards or at least have a buzz around it. It is so good!

At an hour-long per episode, each one is jam-packed with action, with a cliffhanger at the end. Thus, creating a perfect environment for binging! A second season has come out recently, so that will be next on my list.

Uncle Frank

Amazon Prime Video

Set in the 70s, Uncle Frank is a coming-of-age story about a southern young woman who learns some important lessons, and hard truths, from her estranged New York uncle.

While the specific story might not pertain to everyone, if you’ve ever not fit in with your family, I think you’ll enjoy it. Be warned, it’s not a comedy. Although some light-hearted parts, this deals with serious topics.

Pieces of a Woman

Netflix

I had been meaning to watch this before the Oscars because there was a lot of buzz around Vanessa Kirby being nominated for Best Actress, and I’ve loved her ever since she played Princess Margaret in The Crown.

I had been putting it off because it is such a heavy topic, a woman loses her child shortly after giving birth. And I was right to, you need to be in the headspace. A trigger warning should accompany this film. But for as tragic as it is, its beauty also lies in its realism.
