This Week’s Binge 6.5.20

This week was heavy in America and I took some time to educate myself on the social injustice and systemic racism that is happening in the U.S.  I watched 13th on Netflix and read So You Want to Talk About Race by Ijeoma Oluo.  Both were very informative and I would recommend.

Every week when I sit down to write This Week’s Binge, my intention is to give you some ideas on what to watch, read or listen to (and if it’s worth it) and hopefully entertain a little along the way.  While my self-education journey will be ongoing, I won’t be writing about it here as it isn’t “entertainment” to me.

If you have any questions on if I’ve watched or read something you are interested in please don’t hesitate to reach out, but that’s not what this platform is about.

Watch

Defending Jacob

Apple TV

If you’ve been here before, you know I love a murder mystery.  Jacob is a teenager who’s been accused of a horrific crime in his small Massachusetts town.  To make matters even more complex his father, played by Chris Evans, is the ADA.

I started watching this series halfway through so I had the luxury to binge a few episodes at a time and got hooked!  When I had to watch on an every week basis I did find some of the episodes in the middle to be a bit slow.  I kept watching because I needed to know how it ended, and I was not disappointed.

It ends strong.

The Great

Hulu

OK I’m also partial to historical fictions so this was right up my alley.  This is a period piece, set in the 18th century with the rising of Catherine the Great, but the dialogue is modern day.  It is so good and so smart!  Honestly I will be surprised if this doesn’t get nominated during award season.

Huzzah!

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich

Netflix

A 4 part mini-series that explains who Jeffrey Epstein was, the crimes he committed and how he got away with it.  Also has a lot of interviews with his victims, which I hope is some sense of closure since they never got justice with his mysterious death.  I have a feeling we’ll never know all the details of this ‘truth is stranger than fiction’ story.
