An Honest Lume Body Wash Review – Acidified and Unscented

I firmly believe you don’t need to spend much money on body wash. It sits on your skin for a few seconds and then is rinsed away. Cerave Hydrating Body Wash is my go-to since I look for non-irritating, moisturizing, and fragrance-free products. However, I always have my eyes open for new exciting things to try. When I came across a new to me brand touting it controls odor better than traditional soap I was intrigued. Check out my honest Lume Body Wash review!

About Lumē

Lume is a woman-owned, small business founded by a gynecologist in 2017. The brand launched with odor-controlling aluminum-free body deodorant and has since expanded into a variety of other products. Lumē is pronounced Loo-Me (I watched a video by the brand to confirm!)

How Does Lume Body Wash Work?

The brand claims the body wash controls odor for 24 hours. It does this by eliminating bacteria which is the culprit behind odor. It’s safe to use anywhere (and EVERYWHERE) on the external body.

Mandelic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and is what makes the body wash “acidified”. According to Allure Magazine “Mandelic acid’s powerful antibacterial properties team up with its gentle exfoliating, cell-turnover-activating abilities team up to defeat acne, dull skin, uneven texture, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines and wrinkles.”

Body Wash Scents Offered

Since I have sensitive skin, I appreciate Lume Body Wash is offered in Unscented with no added fragrance. This is important because often unscented products have added fragrance to make it unscented.

Those with sensitive skin know we would choose fragrance-free every single time. In addition, they offer four scents: Clean Tangerine, Toasted Coconut, Lavender Sage, and Peony Rose.

Product Overview

Pros

  • Controls odor
  • Great lather
  • Clean ingredients – doesn’t use SLS, Parabens, SLES or Phthalates
  • Variety of scents
  • Fragrance-free option
  • No irritation

Cons

  • The package is not aesthetically pleasing
  • Cost per oz ($2.94/on sale for $2.35/Cerave is $1.14)

Where to Buy Lume

Lumē Acidified Body Wash is available in the following locations:

  • DTC – they sell directly via their website! A benefit of going directly to the source is they offer bundles of various products. The mini body wash set is great because you can try different sets and they are TSA-compliant for easy travel. They also have a subscribe and save offer.
  • Amazon – Like most things, it’s available on Amazon!
  • Target – Target offers a smaller 7 oz. size, although Unscented isn’t available at the time of publishing.

Other Products Offered by Lume

Lumē launched with deodorant and that now includes solid stick, cream stick, cream tube, and cream tube + sweat control (with added aluminum salts). Aside from the deodorant category, and body wash, Lumē offers a cleansing bar, soap, wipes, and body cream.

FAQ

  • Does Lume Body Wash Actually Work? I’ve done some pretty vigorous yoga classes and no one would be the wiser. It might be a placebo effect, but even though I sweat, I haven’t smelled anything.
  • What is the downside of Lume? The price per ounce is higher than my traditional body wash and the packaging isn’t pretty.
  • Is Lume body wash safe for private parts? I’m no doctor, but Lumē was developed by one and they say it’s safe for “pits, privates, and beyond”.
  • What does Lume acidified body wash do? It blocks odor-causing bacteria using mandelic acid.

Final Verdict of Lumē Body Wash

I am pleasantly surprised at how great of a body wash Lumē is aside from the odor-blocking properties. The gel lathers nicely, doesn’t strip my skin, and is non-irritating. On days I know I’ll be working out I use this product, and it’s been great. Could it be a placebo? I’m not sure but I like having the extra insurance just in case. I plan to keep my regular body wash on hand as well as Lume to use if I’m doing a vigorous workout or if it’s really hot outside.

Next, I’ll be trying the cleansing bar! The product is new and wasn’t available when I bought the body wash, but it will be perfect for warm-weather trips, like the one I have coming up soon!
