What is Simple Syrup Simple syrup is essentially liquid sugar, and the recipe could not be easier. Where the real fun begins is with infused simple syrups. My go-to is all different types of fruit, but tea flavored is also excellent. While I make them generally for cocktail recipes, simple syrup is great added to anything you want to sweeten and add flavor to. Have fun trying these with coffee, tea, oatmeal, smoothies, and sparkling water (the list could go on and on).

Something about an old fashioned tastes better in cooler temperatures. Since blackberry season in the U.S. runs through October a blackberry old fashioned makes the perfect Fall cocktail. Check out the recipe below for a blackberry version of the sweeter Wisconsin Brandy Old Fashioned. Enjoy! Jump to my Blackberry Old Fashioned Recipe Blackberry Simple Syrup Fruit-infused simple syrups are easy to make, add a ton of flavor, and can be stored in the fridge to use at a later day. Aside from this cocktail try adding the blackberry simple syrup to sparkling water, a smoothie, oatmeal, coffee, or ice cream. Brandy vs. Whiskey A traditional old fashioned cocktail is made with whiskey but the Wisconsin version is made with brandy instead. Brandy gives a more mild, slightly sweet flavor to the classic cocktail. It’s not sweet by any means, which is why we add the simple syrup and soda, but what I mean is it won’t burn your chest the way whiskey does.
