This Week’s Binge 5.7.21

Not intentionally, but it looks like all I’ve binged are reality things this week. Not true! I most definitely have binged the first four episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale…and it has not disappointed.

The Big Shot With Bethenny

Amazon Prime Video

As an avid fan of The Real Housewives of (insert city here), I was sad to see Bethenny leave NYC. I’ve enjoyed her scrappy, tell-it-like-it-is attitude and I think the show needs that. But, I was happy to see that she came out with a new show, although I wasn’t so excited about the premise.

From the trailer, it looks like a 2021 version of The Apprentice. Which, if memory serves me (and that’s all I have because I’m definitely not researching this) Bethenny was on the Martha Steward version of The Apprentice before she was a Housewife. Life comes full circle.

So, yes, it is like The Apprentice in that it is a reality competition to become a VP for a successful brand. Bethenny needs a VP and she’s hoping to find one here. There have been 3 episodes and it’s entertaining, nice to see Bethenny’s tell it like it is attitude hasn’t gone anywhere. She’s intense, but I like intense.

For Real: The Story of Reality TV

NBC

The iconic Andy Cohen hosts a limited series revisiting the origin of reality TV through a combination of TV clips and interviews with the stars featured.

What a blast from the past! We all know Andy is the host with the most (I don’t think anyone else can do Housewife reunions the way he can) and he loves TV like we do! He’s a fan, first and foremost. So it’s fun to go down reality TV memory lane and hear some thing we never heard.

The Year Earth Changed

Apple TV+

Clocking in at a quick 48 minutes, this documentary looks at how earth changed, for the better, during the global pandemic of 2020.

David Attenborough narrates and I’ll pretty much watch any documentary or docuseries he walks me through. In exploring the world in a shutdown, it’s amazing how quickly the earth responded.

This really makes you think about how we are impacting the earth (we only have one), what we have learned, and the lessons we can take with us as we normalize life.
