The Kominsky Method | Season 3

Netflix

I’m not sure if it was the gummy I swallowed before settling in to watch, but The Kominsky Method got a little weird in season 3.

Since this season is the last and final season I was happy to see that they wrapped everything up, there’s nothing worse than loose ends. But with a series focused on an elderly acting coach (Sandy Kominsky played by Michael Douglas) and his best friend Norman (played by Alan Arkin) I really missed Norman not being in the last and final season. The dynamic that brought success in the first two seasons was notably missing in the last.

This is a classic example of knowing when to leave the party at the exact right time.

The Housewife and The Hustler

Hulu

My obsession with the entire Real Housewives franchise is very real. And when we found out on Election Day 2020 that Erica Girardi (aka Erica Jayne) was filing for divorce from her much older, super wealthy husband of 20 years it shook the Bravo community.

And then…when we found out that said husband, Tom the lawyer, had been allegedly committing crimes the plot thickened. This exposes what all the allegations are. And they are not pretty. Actually they are disgusting.

And for this to air while Erica’s franchise, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, is currently airing on Bravo is a genius move by Hulu. Very meta.

In the Heights

HBO Max

To say that I’m obsessed with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton is putting it lightly. I’ve seen it on stage live, streamed the filmed version on Disney+, listened to the soundtrack ( the original and The Mixtape) countless times. So when I found out he was coming out with a film version of the play, In The Heights, he created right before Hamilton I was very excited.

It’s no Hamilton. If you like musicals give it a try. If you don’t, but you loved Hamilton, you probably won’t love this. I can see how the set design and the dancing with the cast could really be impressive on stage, but it loses something translated to the big screen.

What I do love about it is that it is centered on the neighborhood of Washington Heights in northern manhattan. Seeing that part of the city represented doesn’t happen that often and I loved the diversity and the energy that comes across. Lin-Manuel has gotten some criticism that not enough diversity was represented, and while that may be true, it is progress.
